Beginners and Improvers Oil Painting week-end
An Oil painting course for beginners and improvers consisting of the following:
1. Basic techniques: preparing a personal palette; warm and cold colours; complementary colours; mixing colours with panache; mediums; under-painting.
2. Brush work: brush with purpose; dry brush; flat brush; round brush; detail brush; rigger; overlaying colours; scraping back; sponging; palette knife; spattering; glazing etc
3. Making a start: Finding subjects; capturing the character; limited palette paintings; emphasising mood and drama.
4. Skies the limit: creating dramatic skies, wet in wet technique; blending stormy skies; calm skies; sunny skies
5. Capturing sunlight: light and darks; cast shadows; highlights
6. Tree surgeons: making trees look convincing in the landscape; tree studies
7. Green with envy: creativity with greens; learn how to paint summer greens,.the beginners nightmare; goodbye to garish greens
8. Water works: painting water convincingly; exploring reflections and shadows
9. Some thoughts on presentation, varnishing, framing etc
Due to popular demand Jacinta Crowley-Long is once again facilitating a painting workshop at her home this spring. Jacinta is a well known local, national and international artist. She has been painting full time and exhibiting for over twenty years and has many solo shows in Ireland and has participated in group shows in Wales, Christies London, The Mall Gallery, London and in the Salon de la'Rochelle, France.
Your classes are held at the artists home on the Carlow – Wicklow border. The Rectory, built in 1703 is surrounded by gardens, fields and beautiful countryside, plenty of inspiration for everyone.
The course is held over two days, Saturday and Sunday, beginning at 10.30am until 5 pm. Tea or coffee will be served before you start and lunch will be served at 1 pm. Lunch will consist of soup, a light main course and dessert, made where possible from locally sourced organic ingredients and produce from the Rectory garden. The total cost for two days is € 190. Students will complete at least three paintings and will receive a full set of course notes.
A list of materials required and other information, including local Bed and Breakfast accommodation (if required), will be sent with the booking receipt.
Due to the popularity of these week-ends, early booking is essential. Space on the course is strictly limited and booking requires payment in full and is on a first come first served basis. Please contact me via email.
